Had to deposit a cheque at the Santander bank close to work today and this meant having to brave the tunnels of Elephant & Castle en route. I haven’t used the tunnel since the incident back in December where on my way to the aforementioned bank, I saw a ragged looking dude, squatting and taking a crap in the middle of the tunnel. I had the option of either turning back or walking past him nonchalantly. I decided it would be rude if I did the former so went ahead with the latter.
As I was walking past him, trying to ignore the dude, he gets up and waves at me. Not sure what the custom is in such situations, I waved back. Then I went on my way and he went on to finish his business. It was pretty surreal and needless to say I did not venture alone through the tunnel since.
Though I had brave the tunnel again today, hoping it would be incident free and I am pleased to say other than the fresh whiff of wee there was no visible signs of shit. Success!!
