Bahrain Unite (#UniteBH)

15 Mar

#UniteBHBahrain oh Bahrain I feel your pain,
Eye for an eye, your innocent slain,
Under the bright desert sun,
Shiite, Sunni, expats once living as one,
None could have seen, this uprising,
Fighting, rioting, endless protesting,
Wake, wake up, hear the screams,
Barren fields of heartbroken dreams,
Streams of hate, loss of fate,
Freedom left behind at the gate,
Jasmine revolution, show me the solution,
Where is the love, put Bahrain above,
One heart, one nation, one plight,
Come together, Bahrain Unite

You are for me

24 Oct

Hilltops and funny clouds, birdseye view,
But why can’t I take my eyes off of you,
Have I been bitten, bitten by the love bug,
Feeling your warmth with every single hug,
Your body shuddering nervously in my arms,
As you look past my imperfections,
I see beauty shining through your soul,
Stop time, freeze frame, capture moment,
Engrave it in my formerly lonely heart,
Pinch me, this cannot be, is it a dream,
Will you be there when I awake, I shake,
Off thoughts of negativity and I pray,
To spend each new day, falling,
Falling for you a little bit more,
Blindly discarding expectations,
Treasuring, every passing minute,
Spent hands intertwined by your side, whilst,
Missing you every time we are apart,
I know that you are for me.

Roll the dice

1 Jul

Fly in my pocket, too skint to be fly,
But I would give in plethora all that I can,
To be by your side, to you I confide,
My treasure box of feelings and emotions,
So what if I lack the wisdom of time,
Or the maturity to accept defeat,
Oh Miss bright eyed power suited city girl,
Fall in love with this brash small town boy,
Let us take a ride in spontaneity,
Laugh hysterically at odd shaped clouds,
Make love on top of haystacks,
Lie back and kiss stars in the nightlight,
Soak up the fresh open country air,
Drape ourselves in warm nostalgia,
Will build a summer home in the hills,
Brave winter in an igloo by the polar caps,
Ride a Gondola under the bridge of sighs,
Set fire to the Northern lights,
Walk down the aisle, along the Nile,
Roll the dice, close your eyes,
Take a chance with a boy like me.

Day 85 – Gun Slinger

26 Mar Frank and Jesse James

I wanna be an ol’ western gun slinger,
Finger planted on the trigger,
Rob trains, build my fame,
Play games like Jesse James,
Wear boots with shiny spurs,
Sharper than a swagger dagger,
My faces up in all them places,
On wanted posters dressed in haute couture,
Outlaw to the reigning status quo,
Penning my fate with each new date,
Challenge me and you will see,
A duel where I will kill thee,
Shackle me and I will break free,
Ride away sunset bound on my trusted steed.

Day 83 – Overture

24 Mar Overture highway

Dark cloudy skies on bright sunny days,
Raindrops, teardrops saturates,
My semi-conformed sense of reality,
As madness encroaches sanity,

Running briskly through the motions of life,
Yet standing still to the notions of time,
Clarity lost to mental myopia,
Absolution in spirits not spirit,

Clinging on to past moments,
Living in a soapy bubble of hope,
Unquenchable thirst quenched,
Through half empty glasses of expectation,

Ray of light come shine upon me,
Give order to the randomness,
Provide an overture to the musical,
That mirrors my nonchalant existence.

Day 45 – Lonesville aka Valentine’s Day

14 Feb

Walking the cobbled streets of Lonesville,
Beautiful visions of you in my head,
Feeling the warm summer breeze,
On an ice cool winter morning,

Your invisible fingers intertwined with mine,
Steps synchronised to heart beats,
My upside down frown shines through,
Every time I see your unblemished face,

Picture perfect every untarnished memory,
Smells still fresh like you were by my side,
That one night we shared, on constant replay,
Running through my mind unfatigued,

But my heart, well my heart suffocates,
I have fallen, fallen hard for you,
Be my paramedic, mask me with oxygen,
Be my crutch, and watch me rise,

Can’t explain this effect you have on me,
Open your eyes and you too will see,
I am your shining white knight,
I am that dark, handsome stranger,

I will ride my chariot down your road,
And steal you away from normality,
Take you on a whirlwind tour,
Across mountain tops and deep blue seas,

Will build a home where the kerchief falls,
White fence, a dog and children to call,
Our own little brood, a 5-a side team,
As we playfully bicker old together,

Pause time, think for a moment,
What we stand to lose,
If my love remains unrequited,
My heart pains all in vain,

Give us a fighting chance,
I am down on my knees,
Don’t turn your back at me,
And throw away all that could be.

Day 37 – Beer Goggles

6 Feb

Bianca introduced me to a new word “Smize” which basically means smiling with your eyes, so thought I had write a poem with the word in it….Enjoy, I am sure many of you can relate!

Seldom this I may convey but,
Boy do I look dashing today,
Wild hair like a lion’s mane,
Chiselled jaw, nine o’ clock shadow,
Smize that even Tyra would envy,
Broad shoulders, washboard abs,
Effortless portray of style and panache,
James Dean swagger, John Wayne drawl,
Smooth and suave, the ladies sway,
Chatup lines flow easy as rhymes,
The PUAs note down my ways,
Mighty jocks turn to quivering wrecks,
As their trophy WAGs I charm away,
Call me egotistical,
Call me vain,
I will laugh at your face,
And call you names,
Oh what a bloody shame,
That when morning dawns,
And the goggles fade off,
I revert unstoppably into average me,
The unenviable geek that you now see.

Day 23 – King of All City (poem on Graffiti)

23 Jan

I came across a blog post today entitled Banksy vs Robbo WRH, WD checkmate, about a feud that has recently developed amongst two of the Graffiti community’s heavyweights. It makes for an interesting read and also inspired me to write a poem. I have always been fascinated by the elaborate designs of graffiti artists, vandalism as it may be, the good pieces still leave me in awe of the talent behind the work.

I hate reading poems that make no sense, and I am being slightly hypocritical here by writing a poem that includes quite a bit of slang, so I have added a glossary below the poem to make it easier to understand.

King of All City (poem on Graffiti)

London to Leeds, King of all city,
Marking my territory, like a dog to a tree,
Trains, drains and even my old man’s cane,
Prior untouched but now dressed up,
I wear the hat and need no crew,
Building rep by working up, top-to-bottom and end-to-end,
Bringing art to the masses, is the way I perceive it,
Away from the artsy-fartsies and posh private collections,
Elaborate blackbook sketches to graffiti burners,
Every tag of mine, a public masterpiece,
All them toys may bite my work,
But none have landmarked the heavens like me,
Impossible to cap, they run for years,
Just like me, anonymous and free,
London to Leeds, King of all city.

Glossary

  • King of all city – a highly reputable graffiti artist
  • Untouched – a blank canvas
  • Dressed up – Done up with Graffiti
  • Wearing the hat – Trusted by other graffiti writers not to squeal on them
  • Crew – a group of writers working together
  • Artsy Fartsy – An almost derogatory term for someone who likes traditional art
  • Rep – reputation
  • top-to-bottom, end- to-end – As in writing all over a train carriage
  • blackbook sketches – Where all graffiti work is planned out
  • toys – Amateur graffiti painters
  • bite – copy
  • burners – A large piece of graffiti that is usually elaborate
  • landmarking the heavens – Painting in hard-to-reach places making them difficult to remove
  • cap – Going/painting over someone else’s piece of work (like how Banksy capped Robbo’s work)

My pic of the day….well take a guess :)

Open letter to Santa

Letter to Santa

Letter to Santa

O good San Nicolás of Myra,
I call upon you, like millions before me,
Heed me, unobscured,
My wishes void of capitalistic intent,
I ask not for fame, nor for wealth,

But for strength of character and resilience,
For those who fight the good fight,
The young private defending the borders,
The doctor healing the sick,
The men in blue, the men in red,
The terminally ill battling against the reaper,

O good San Nicolás of Myra,
I call upon you, like millions before me,
Heed me, unobscured,
My wishes void of capitalistic intent,
I ask not for fame, nor for wealth,

But for hope, faith and joy,
For those who need it most,
The family who have lost a loved one,
The forgotten destitute living off alms,
The lover heartbroken and spirit wounded,
The disabled denying victory to the odds,

Resurrect the spirit of Chrimbo – generosity,
Not of the material kind, but of the soul,
A helping hand, a warm embrace,
Words to motivate, make a difference,
Time donated to those less fortunate,
Fellowship of friends, hearts contented,

O good San Nicolás of Myra,
I call upon you, like millions before me,
Heed me, unobscured!

Yours Sincerely,
Niro N

Jaded

23 Dec

Striking a pose, pouting those lips,
Wind blown hair, eyes to the lens,
A model by day, a seductress by night,
She breaks many a poor man’s heart,
Blind is she, to the inner beauty,
A slave to fashion, she will always be,
Caked up in make up, baked up in fake tan,
She hides from the woman in the mirror,
Who stares back disapprovingly,
As time goes by, the beauty fades,
Cellulite galore, as the body puts on weight,
A life led by looks minus personality,
Friends disappear, boyfriends dither,
Ordinary, just like you and me,
She disappears into obscurity.
