Day 100 – WooHoo, My Hundredth post of the Year!!

10 Apr

It hasn’t been easy, I have a very busy schedule and updating this blog has definitely been a job and a half, but I have prevailed (so far) and have reached my 100th post. Not sure how I should celebrate this remarkable accomplishment, maybe I should light a cigar, maybe I should shout from the rooftops, maybe I should get myself a medal made, maybe I should have accomplishment sex, maybe I should have a city named after me, maybe I should buy a crater on the moon or maybe I should just post about it :-|

And here are 100 of the best movie lines ever, random I know, but I have always liked lists -

Day 99 – 99 Problems

9 Apr

Well being single, I sometimes do feel that the grass is greener on the other side, but then I listen to the original version of 99 Problems by Ice-T and it always brings a smile to my face. Single life ain’t too bad at all. It might not be PC, but hey it’s rap.

Day 98 – Graffomat – A dream machine for graffiti artists

8 Apr

I have already expressed my interest in Graffiti through the King of All City poem but today came across a website that sells Graffiti Vending Machines – Graffomat. So say you are in the middle of a masterpiece and your spray can spurts out it last drops of paint, what do you do? Head down to your local Graffomat vending machine of course. You can purchase markers, spraycans, ski-masks and all you need is spare change.

To be honest, I do not know whether this vending machine is authentic or some kind of viral, but boy would it be interesting if this was real.

Day 97 – Krav Maga

7 Apr

I have taken a keen interest in Krav Maga, it is a contact combat system developed in Israel. In essence, Krav Maga isn’t about being a tough guy, it is an art of self-defense, it is not about learning how to fight in a ring, it is about going home alive no matter what the situation.

Traditional martial arts are generally criticized for their lack of real-life applicability. Most people learn Martial Arts to look after themselves but Martial Arts in their traditional form are not realistic self defense systems – and were never meant to be – they are more of a sport with rules to prevent illegal moves and foul play.

Krav Maga on the other hand is all about fighting dirty and learning no-holds-barred moves in a real life situation. When assaulted an individual has the right to use whatever techniques necessary to defend themselves. It is a survival system that teaches you to use your instinct to defend against both armed and unarmed attackers. It also instils aggressiveness, fighting spirit, situational awareness, and promotes verbal de-escalation of conflict

General Krav Maga principles include:

  • Counter attacking as soon as possible (or attacking preemptively).
  • Targeting attacks to the body’s most vulnerable points such as the eyes, jaw, throat, groin, knee etc.
  • Neutralising the opponent as quickly as possible by responding with an unbroken stream of counter attacks and if necessary a take down/joint break.
  • Maintaining awareness of surroundings while dealing with the threat in order to look for escape routes, further attackers, objects that could be used to defend or help attack and so on.

Below is a video of Krav Maga instructor Roy Elghanayan doing what he does best -

Day 96 – The Blind Side

6 Apr

Watched the Blind Side today and loved it. A quick synopsis of the movie from Wikipedia:

The Blind Side is a 2009 American drama–sports film written and directed by John Lee Hancock, and based on the 2006 book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis. The storyline features Michael Oher, an offensive lineman who plays for the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL. The film follows Oher from his impoverished upbringing, through his years at Wingate Christian School (a fictional representation of Briarcrest Christian School in the suburbs of Memphis, Tennessee), his adoption by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, and on to his position as one of the most highly coveted prospects in college football.

The movie is very heart warming and the fact that it is based on the true story of Michael Oher makes it even more special. Sandra Bullock looked completely stunning in this movie, Jeese James is probably kicking himself now for cheating on her while she was filming the movie.

My movie rating – 8/10

Michael Oher with his adoptive family in the movie - Sean Tuohy (from l), Collins, Sean Jr, Michael Oher and Leigh Anne Tuohy

The Real Michael Oher with his adoptive family - Sean (from l.) and Leigh Anne Tuohy, Michael Oher, Collins and Sean Jr.

Day 95 – Rockin it 70s style

5 Apr

I love old yearbook pictures, bad hairstyle, horrible dress sense, braces e.tc. e.t.c. So thought I had try to recreate a 70s style yearbook image, I look pretty geeky and cool at the same time!

Day 94 – Happy Easter

4 Apr

As you grow older, you get fewer and fewer Easter eggs which is a tad bit depressing. This year I only received one, but I like to think of it as quality over quantity. My Easter Egg had my name and a football on it also being Thornton’s chocolate it was delicious. :D

Day 93 – Dragons are not just for Christmas

3 Apr

Don’t you just hate it when people abandon their pets. I saw the poor creature below abandoned on the tube. Shame on those who left him there! Remember Dragons are not just for Christmas!

Day 92 – Clash of the Titans 3D

2 Apr

Beginning of the 4 day long Easter break. Had lunch with the family and then met up with a few mates for dinner at Cruz’s house. After dinner, we all went to watch Clash of the Titans 3D on it’s opening day. I love 3D movies, makes you feel like you are part of the movie.

But Clash of the Titans 3D was a bit of a let down. Clash of the Titans was originally shot in 2-D and later converted into 3-D so the extra dimension isn’t really how you would expect it to be. Nowhere near as visually amazing as Avatar.

The movie itself is a bit cheesy, Sam Worthington gives a pretty flat / bland performance in this. There is nothing exciting in the movie that is bound to leave it memorable.

A low rating of 4/10 for the movie.

Day 91 – April Fool’s Day

1 Apr

I love April Fool’s Day, a day of total mischief. With us living in the information age, even pranks can be pulled without actually getting up from your chair. All you need is a computer and a connection to the internet :D
