My favourite football adverts

22 Apr

With the Football World Cup 2010 not too far way, marketing agency creatives all around the world would have already created football themed adverts to push almost everything at us from toilet rolls to kegs of beer, while we watch the beautiful game. I have loved a number of football adverts over the year, so thought I had pool all my favourite ones into one place. I will keep adding more adverts to this blog post.

Nike Secret Tournament and the Rematch
This has to be my most favourite football advert of all time. In this ad, Cantona hosts a secret three-a-side cage football where he utters his second most famous quote “There is one rule. First goal wins. With Elvis’s A little less conversation remixed by JXL playing in the background, this has to be my my most favourite football advert ever.

The advert was so popular Nike made a sequel ad called the Secret tournament rematch though it probably doesn’t have the same flair as the original.

Pepsi FC vs Sumo FC

Definitely one of the funniest football adverts that also drives a moral message “Never judge a book by it’s cover. No prize for guessing who wins.

Nike FC vs Satan FC

In the Nike ad, Nike sponsored football stars take on the Devil and his team in one of those classic “good versus evil” encounters. Paolo Maldini provide the comedy cue when he suggests “Maybe they’re friendly?” suggests Paolo Maldini. Good triumphs over evil with a fireball shot from the ever cool Cantona.

Carlsberg and Ireland take on the World (Carlsberg Dreams)

Carlsberg are “probably the best” at anything they do and this is probably the best advert ever made. Ireland win the World Cup even beating England along the way.

Puma Hardchorus

20 Apr

It’s Match Day…It’s Valentines Day…What do you do? Let your other half know how you feel of course (while you are in the pub with the boys). I love this Puma ad, cos they sound like the lads in my local after a few rounds of the good stuff.

For the English speaking world there’s a version of Savage Garden’s Truly Madly Deeply.

For the Italian speaking world there’s a version of Umberto Tozzi’s 1977 hit Ti Amo.

Day 16 – Chelsea and the Seven Dwarves (Goals)

16 Jan

Watched my boys take on Sunderland today, one of the best matches Chelsea has played this whole season. They beat Sunderland 7-2 and it could have easily been 14-2 with the number of chances Chelsea missed. Chelsea had better style and flair in this one Match than Liverpool had this whole season. All the naysayers who didn’t believe Chelsea could win the title without Drogba and the rest of the African lads, have been silenced. In the words of Sunderland’s manager Steve Bruce :

There’s no getting away from it, we have had our backsides well and truly kicked.

My pic of the day is my beloved Lil Stamford bear and Chelsea Scarf <3

Essien and the shin of God

16 Mar
Essien - The shin of God

Essien - The shin of God

Chelsea had a brilliant game today against Man City, it was good to see them more focused and determined to win. The scoreline clearly did not really reflect the way Chelsea outplayed Mark Hughes’ lads. Once again after his brilliant goal in the Champions League against Juventus, Essien was there to save the day via his shin when he diverted Frank Lampard’s free-kick into the corner and keep us in the title race.
Hiddink has been a real breath of fresh air to Chelsea, but is still keeping his cards close to his heart.  He still says he intends to leave at the end of the season, but could this be just a way of holding back until he is offered more money from Abromovich. Who knows…all I know is if he keeps the players as motivated as he is now and we win the Champions League, then Abromovich would be pretty daft not to hold on to Hiddink.

We are back at number two and only four points away from United who still have a game in hand. United might still go on to win, but atleast we are still close enough to keep on the pressure and you never know the pressure might cause United to slip up like they did with Liverpool.

Next up next week for us is the Spurs….Bring it on I say!

Liverpool beat United at Old Trafford

14 Mar

Liverpool not only beat United at Old Trafford but humiliated them with the scoreline 4 – 1 to Liverpool, who would have thought. It has clearly been a wonderful week for Liverpool, with both Real Madrid and United nuked with four-goal performances. I guess Liverpool winning is good for us as long as Chelsea win the next match. It reins in United and gives us a chance to hopefully catch up with them clealry unlikely at this stage though, but we all live in hope.

What sucks is the fact that yesterday I removed John Terry from my Fanatsy Football team and replaced him with Vidic, only for Vidic to get a red card today. Sucks I tell ya, only comforted by the fact that I didnt replace Cech with Van der Saar. :)

I wonder what would happen to Liverpool if Gerrard and Torres are taken out of the equation. As much as I hate Liverpool as a team, you cant help but fall in love with the partnership these two have on the picth. If only Torres played for Chelsea….
